Who & What We Are

Mermaid Fitness began as a dream of Sam’s to have her own personal training center. Sam moved to the seacoast area three years ago and wanted to fill a need for 1-on-1 training in a fresh, inspiring and non intimidating environment.

The goal is to incorporate Functional Training Programs for every age, shape and background from weekend warrior to Pro-level athletes. Striving for excellence, settling for your best and only being satisfied when preset goals are met. The primary motivation is to educate, support and provide correct skills and knowledge to make the very best you can be that also translate to your family and friends, as well as for life…

Functional Personal Training is where it all began. Though injuries may occur, we are equipped with Doctors for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome treatment. We continue to maintain high standards, pride ourselves in progressive and cutting edge Strength and Conditioning methods. Come join us!

The concept of “Mermaid Fitness” came to fruition as a dream of Sam’s to have her own personal training business. When Sam moved to the seacoast area three years ago she wanted to fill a need for 1-on-1 training in a fresh, inspiring and non intimidating environment.

Our goal is to incorporate Functional Training Programs for every shape, age, background from weekend warrior to Pro-level athletes. We strive for excellence, settle for only your best and are only satisfied when you’ve achieved or attained your preset, determined goals. Our motivation and objectives are to educate, support, guide and provide you with the correct skills and knowledge to make you the very best you can be. Not only for you, but for your family, your friends and for life…

Meet Sam

Samantha “Sam” discovered the importance of being fit and strong at a young age. As a child she competed on a national level as a Junior Hunter Rider. Sam realized that fitness contributed to giving her more confidence and ability to compete at that level.

That passion carried on into her adult life. As the mother of 4 children Sam furthered her competitive spirit and passion for fitness. Going on to be a nine time marathon finisher, numerous half marathons, hill climb bike road racer, which included a podium finish at Mt. Washington and a half iron man competitor. All the time Sam continued to coach one on one , group classes, runners and triathletes for the last 20 years.

Meet Our Coaches

  • Brian

    Brian continues his service as a York Police Officer for the past 29 years.Brian's passion for fitness evolved later in life. In 2006 he lost 80 lbs and set a course of fitness, by really exercising seriously and committing himself to be fit for the first time in his life. In 2008 Brian took an assignment at the Police Academy as a Cadre, which encompassed Cadet discipline and physical fitness training.

    Brian realized the importance for fitness and being confident and how it related to every aspect of your life. Since 2006 Brian has competed in numerous 5 and 10 Ks, half marathons and a four time finisher of the Mt. Washington Road Race to the clouds.

    Brian and Sam met each other through their shared passions for fitness, growing into a great friendship and now a wonderful loving life together. They wanted to share their passion and experiences of fitness with others, creating Mermaid Fitness.

  • Kendall

    Kendall Carr is a 2015 graduate of York High School and currently a sophomore at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. She is a two-sport collegiate athlete in both ice hockey and softball.

    She is pursuing a double major in Neuroscience and Psychology and plans to attend Medical School to pursue a career in Pediatric Surgery. Kendall has been a camp counselor at the York Parks and Rec Department with the Outdoor Adventure Camps for the past two years where she has enjoyed working with kids in all kinds of sports and activities.

    As a collegiate athlete, strength and conditioning training and weight training are integral parts of a college athletic career and a healthy lifestyle in general. Kendall has been committed and dedicated for a number of years to achieve her fitness and athletic goals and is excited to bring her knowledge and enthusiasm in these areas to this program.

  • 1-on-1 Training
    Whether you’re an elite athlete, a client with multiple limitations, or someone in-between, we always work within your goals, modifying to an individualized workout that is just for you.
  • Partner Training
    Reconnect with a friend or your spouse through fitness. Our partner training sessions are designed for those clients who enjoy working out with someone else.
  • Small Group Training
    Do you enjoy group exercise? Mermaid Fitness offers small group training for those of you who desire the group experience but not with the large crowds.
  • Group Classes
    Boot Camp Classes, TRX Classes and Mobility Classes. Join Us! We do it all with intensity classes, weight resistance and body stretching and much, much more!
  • Endurance Training
    Are you a couch-to-5k person who wants that start in running or an ironman or marathoner wanting to achieve your very best. We have a program for you!
  • F.A.S.T. for kids & teens
    FOOTWORK, AGILITY & SPEED TRAINING for kids & teens. This program makes fitness fun while simultaneously improving and refining gross motor skills.
